Regular attendance affects student success. Students may occasionally need to be absent for illness, emergencies, etc. In such cases they must make up all work missed. Students have the responsibility to arrange make-up work with their teachers.
Students who miss class must have a parent/guardian call the school. A truancy is when a student is deliberately absent from school and/or class without the knowledge or consent of their parents or the school. An automated attendance caller will call home each afternoon/evening to report unexcused absences.
After 5 school days, unexcused absences (x) will be treated as truancies. Parents should call the attendance office or send a note with their student within 5 days of the absence. Parents are encouraged to call the school in advance for planned absences.
Absences that are considered truancies may restrict students from making up work that was missed.
Overall absences (truancies / unexcused absences) will result in the following:
1 missed class = 1 absence
• 20 Absences – Attendance letter outlining the consequences of non-attendance required by state law.
• 40 Absences – Referral to Truancy School
• 60 Absences – Referral to Court
